Caribou, ME – Northern Maine is gearing up for a wintry week, with snow, freezing temperatures, and gusty winds expected by midweek. The National Weather Service warns of travel disruptions and blowing snow, urging residents to prepare now for changing conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, temperatures will gradually drop starting Monday, with highs barely reaching 30°F by Wednesday. A strong clipper system from the Northwest is expected to arrive late Wednesday into Thursday, bringing moderate snowfall to much of the region. Coastal areas may see a mix of rain and snow, while inland locations could face several inches of accumulation.

Winds are expected to intensify on Friday as northwesterly gusts follow the storm. These strong winds may result in blowing snow, significantly reducing visibility in open areas. Residents should take precautions by limiting travel during peak snowfall and securing outdoor items prone to wind damage.

The week ahead will feature isolated snow showers Sunday and Monday, with increasing cloud cover by midweek. Lows will dip into the teens and single digits, adding to the wintry chill. Forecasters anticipate the snowiest period will occur Thursday, with travel delays likely along major routes, including Route 1 and I-95.

Stay updated on weather developments and use caution while driving, particularly during low visibility conditions. Snowplow crews and public safety officials recommend keeping emergency kits in vehicles and planning alternate routes when possible.
