Goodland, KS – Residents across northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska are being urged to prepare for bitterly cold overnight temperatures as the National Weather Service in Goodland issues a Freeze Warning from 10 p.m. CDT Tuesday through 11 a.m. CDT Wednesday.

The warning includes Cheyenne, Rawlins, Decatur, Norton, Sherman, Thomas, Sheridan, Graham, Wallace, Logan, Gove, Greeley, and Wichita counties in Kansas, along with Dundy, Hitchcock, and Red Willow counties in Nebraska.

Forecasters expect lows near 23°F, which could kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and freeze unprotected outdoor plumbing. The NWS advises residents to drain irrigation systems, cover exposed pipes, and bring potted plants indoors before nightfall.

This freeze marks one of the coldest nights of the fall season so far for the High Plains. Conditions should gradually warm by Wednesday afternoon, though another cold morning is possible later in the week.

Residents are encouraged to follow updates from local weather officials and take precautions ahead of tonight’s temperature drop.
