GOODLAND, Kan. – Another round of chilly fall air will sweep across northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska through Thursday morning, prompting back-to-back Frost Advisories as temperatures drop into the low 30s.

According to the National Weather Service in Goodland, a Frost Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. CDT (10 a.m. MDT) Wednesday, with a second advisory taking hold from 10 p.m. CDT (9 p.m. MDT) tonight through 11 a.m. CDT (10 a.m. MDT) Thursday. The advisories cover Cheyenne, Rawlins, Decatur, Norton, Sherman, Thomas, and Graham Counties in Kansas, and Dundy, Hitchcock, and Red Willow Counties in Nebraska, including Goodland, Colby, Hill City, and McCook.

Light winds and clear skies will allow temperatures to fall quickly after sunset. According to the NWS, lows between 31°F and 34°F will lead to patchy to widespread frost, especially in rural valleys and along U.S. Highways 24 and 83. Sensitive plants may be damaged or killed if left uncovered.

Residents should cover vegetation, bring potted plants inside, and protect outdoor plumbing. According to local emergency management officials, motorists may also encounter frosted windshields early Thursday, particularly on elevated roadways.

The chill will ease later Thursday as sunshine returns and highs climb into the upper 50s. A gradual warming trend is expected into the weekend, though another cool front may arrive by early next week.
