Colby, Kansas – Drivers in northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska should brace for a dangerous morning commute as dense fog reduces visibility to near a quarter-mile across the region until 11 a.m. CDT Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Goodland, the Dense Fog Advisory spans from Cheyenne and Rawlins counties through Thomas, Sheridan, and Graham, and extends northward into Red Willow and Hitchcock counties in Nebraska. Cities including Colby, McCook, Oakley, and Atwood are expected to experience the most persistent low visibility.
Roadways such as I-70, U.S. 83, and U.S. 36 could see particularly hazardous driving conditions. Local law enforcement has advised caution, encouraging drivers to slow down, keep headlights on low beam, and increase following distance.
This fog event may linger through mid-morning before gradually lifting. Motorists heading out early are urged to delay travel if possible or plan for extra time.
Additional advisories could follow if fog persists or visibility worsens beyond the morning hours.
