Goodland, Kansas – Drivers along I-70 and U.S. 385 will battle 65 mph wind gusts by late morning Tuesday, with blowing dust and sudden visibility drops creating dangerous travel across northwest Kansas and eastern Colorado through early evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Goodland, a High Wind Warning remains in effect from 10 a.m. MST in eastern Colorado and 11 a.m. CST in Kansas until 5 p.m. MST, or 6 p.m. CST, Tuesday. West winds will sustain between 35 and 45 mph, with peak gusts reaching 65 mph across Yuma, Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties in Colorado and Sherman, Thomas, Wallace, Logan, Gove, Greeley and Wichita counties in Kansas.

The strongest winds are expected late morning through mid-afternoon, with sustained speeds near 40 mph continuing into the evening. Officials warn of loose debris, downed tree limbs and isolated power outages. High-profile vehicles, including semis traveling between Goodland, Colby and Oakley, face an elevated rollover risk.

Blowing dust may reduce visibility rapidly over short distances, especially in open fields near Leoti, Tribune and Sharon Springs. Residents should secure outdoor furniture, avoid unnecessary travel during peak gusts and stay indoors if dust thickens. The warning remains in effect until early evening, and additional advisories could follow if winds persist.
