Goodland, KS – Residents across northwest Kansas and eastern Colorado are being urged to prepare for freezing temperatures overnight, as a Freeze Warning goes into effect from 9 p.m. MDT (10 p.m. CDT) Monday through 10 a.m. MDT (11 a.m. CDT) Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Goodland.

The warning includes Cheyenne County, Colorado, and Greeley, Logan, Wallace, and Wichita Counties in Kansas, covering communities such as Arapahoe, Cheyenne Wells, Oakley, Sharon Springs, Tribune, and Leoti.

Forecasters expect overnight lows between 27°F and 30°F, cold enough to kill crops, damage sensitive plants, and freeze unprotected plumbing.

The NWS advises residents to drain irrigation systems, cover outdoor pipes, and bring potted plants indoors. Water pipes should be insulated or allowed to drip slowly to prevent freezing.

This marks one of the first widespread freezes of the fall season across the High Plains, signaling the end of the growing season for many agricultural areas. Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by midweek, with highs returning to the 50s.
