Sioux City, IA – A Wind Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 3 a.m. Wednesday, as strong north winds move through the Siouxland region, bringing the potential for downed limbs, power flickers, and travel hazards overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph across northwest and west-central Iowa, southwest Minnesota, and northeast Nebraska. Impacted areas include Sioux City, Le Mars, Cherokee, Spencer, Worthington, and South Sioux City.
The NWS warns that these powerful gusts could blow around unsecured outdoor objects and make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles, particularly on open roads and overpasses. Tree limbs and Halloween decorations may be at risk of damage or displacement.
The strongest winds are expected between 9 p.m. and midnight, before gradually easing toward daybreak Wednesday. Temperatures will drop sharply overnight as the cold front moves through, signaling a chilly midweek ahead.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and use caution when traveling, especially in rural or exposed areas.
