Carroll, IA – The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of northwest and west-central Iowa, warning of accumulating snow from 5 a.m. to noon Saturday.
According to the NWS, 1 to 3 inches of snow are expected, with isolated higher totals possible. Affected areas include Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Sac, Calhoun, Crawford, and Carroll counties, covering communities such as Emmetsburg, Rockwell City, Denison, and Carroll.
Forecasters caution that slippery roads and reduced visibility may develop during the early morning hours, particularly along Highway 71 and U.S. 20, as snow falls through mid-morning.
Travelers heading out early Saturday should allow extra time and use caution, as road crews work to clear snow ahead of the weekend. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing through the morning, slowing road treatment effectiveness.
Residents can monitor updated travel information through the Iowa 511 app, 511ia.org, or by dialing 511 for statewide conditions.
