Hobart, IN – Severe weather swept through Hobart on Friday, leaving behind widespread damage that included power outages, downed trees, flooded roadways and multiple traffic disruptions across the city.

According to the Hobart Fire Department, emergency crews have been responding to a high volume of storm-related incidents and are prioritizing calls based on life safety concerns and the severity of damage.

City officials reported scattered power outages and numerous downed power lines throughout the area, along with fallen trees blocking roads and damaging vehicles.

Among the most significant impacts, Liverpool Road has been closed between 49th Street and 53rd Avenue after trees fell onto vehicles during the storm. Officials also reported traffic restrictions on 3rd Street near Lake Park Avenue, where downed trees have reduced travel to a single lane.

Emergency responders are urging residents to avoid affected areas and use alternate routes while cleanup operations continue.

The city said multiple departments, including Fire, Police, Public Works, Utilities and other municipal personnel, are working together to assess damage, clear hazards and restore services as quickly as possible.

Residents who encounter storm-related damage on public property, including downed trees, are encouraged to contact the Hobart Public Works Department. Power outages should be reported directly to NIPSCO.

Officials are also reminding residents to avoid flooded roadways and stay clear of downed power lines.

For safety reasons, city leaders are encouraging residents to remain home unless travel is necessary while emergency crews continue response and recovery operations.

The full extent of storm damage has not yet been released, and cleanup efforts are expected to continue into the coming days as crews work to restore normal conditions throughout the city.
