Jasper County, IN – A new scam has been circulating in the area, targeting residents with fake arrest warrants. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning on Wednesday about the fraudulent activity.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, scammers are pretending to be “Sergeant Davis” and are using the phone number (219) 271-2160. They claim that there is an arrest warrant out for the victim and demand payment to avoid getting into legal trouble. The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that this is entirely fake.

Sheriff Pat Williamson stated, “Law enforcement doesn’t call people to demand money for warrants or fines. If you get one of these calls, hang up right away.”

Residents are advised to remember these key tips:

1. Don’t believe it: If someone calls saying they’re from law enforcement and wants money, don’t give them any info. Just hang up.
2. Check it out: Call the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office directly at (219) 866-7334 if you’re unsure about any calls you receive.
3. Spread the word: Tell your friends, family, and neighbors about this scam so they don’t get tricked.
4. Report it: Let the authorities know if you receive one of these calls.

The Sheriff’s Office is actively working to catch these scammers and requests public assistance in reporting any suspicious activities. For more information or to report a scam, call the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office at (219) 866-7334.
