Munster, Indiana – Residents across Lake County have a limited window Saturday to safely dispose of hazardous household materials before they pile up or pose risks at home.

According to the Lake County Solid Waste Management District, a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Munster Public Works, located at 508 Fisher Street. The event is open exclusively to Lake County residents, and proof of residency is required upon arrival.

Officials say the drop-off is designed to handle common but potentially dangerous items such as cleaners, chemicals, and batteries, with a strict limit of 1,000 pounds per household. Latex paint will not be accepted at this location, a key detail organizers emphasize to avoid delays at check-in.

Drivers should expect increased traffic near the facility during peak morning hours, especially along nearby residential routes. Participants are encouraged to secure materials properly in their vehicles and remain in their cars during unloading for safety.

This marks one of several seasonal collection events across the county, with additional dates expected later this spring.
