Rome, GA – Severe thunderstorms continue to impact northwest Georgia early Sunday morning, with 60 mph wind gusts threatening several counties, including Floyd, Whitfield, and Walker, until 3 a.m. EST.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the storm line was moving east at 65 mph as of 2:19 a.m., affecting areas from Sherwood to McVille. The storms are expected to cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees across the region.

Cities in the storm’s path include Rome, Dalton, Lafayette, Summerville, and Ringgold. Residents are advised to seek shelter in interior rooms on the lowest floors of sturdy buildings. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 9 a.m. for northwestern Georgia, with the potential for tornadoes developing quickly from these storms.

The National Weather Service warns that intense thunderstorms can produce brief tornadoes and significant wind damage. Residents should stay alert and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions as storms pass through the region early Sunday morning.
