Chattanooga, TN – Residents across northwest Georgia should remain weather-aware this evening as a tornado watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. CDT for Catoosa, Dade, Chattooga, and Walker counties.

According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, the watch was issued at 2:35 p.m. CDT Tuesday and includes the potential for multiple severe storms capable of producing tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds. The watch covers the Georgia counties bordering Tennessee and Alabama, placing cities like Fort Oglethorpe, Trenton, and Summerville on high alert.

Strong thunderstorms are expected to move through the area late Tuesday afternoon into the evening, with the most dangerous window between 5 and 9 p.m. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, and review tornado safety plans. Mobile homes and outdoor structures are especially vulnerable.

Travel on U.S. Highway 27 and State Route 136 may be hazardous during peak storm activity. Emergency officials recommend sheltering in place if warnings are issued.

The tornado watch remains in effect until 10 p.m. CDT. Additional warnings could be issued with little notice, so stay tuned to local alerts and NOAA Weather Radio.
