Grand Junction, Colo. – Critical fire weather conditions are expected across northwest Colorado today as hot, dry, and windy conditions elevate wildfire risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a Red Flag Warning is in effect from noon through 8 p.m. for portions of the region, where fuels are considered highly susceptible to ignition. Wind gusts are forecast between 25 and 40 mph, combined with relative humidity levels dropping as low as 11 to 17 percent.

Temperatures are expected to remain 20 to 25 degrees above normal, with near-record highs possible again today. These conditions significantly increase the potential for rapid fire spread.

While slightly cooler temperatures and lighter winds are المتوقع Friday, officials warn that critical fire weather conditions could return over the weekend.

Residents are urged to avoid activities that could spark fires during the warning period, as even small ignitions may spread quickly under these conditions.

The dry and windy weather may also impact outdoor workers and travelers, particularly in exposed and higher-elevation areas.
