Craig, CO –
Residents across the Central Yampa River Basin should prepare for a sharp temperature drop overnight, with a Freeze Warning in effect from midnight to 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.

Sub-freezing temperatures could fall as low as 27 degrees, impacting areas including Craig, Hayden, and Meeker. The cold snap marks one of the season’s first hard freezes for northwest Colorado.

According to the weather service, frost and freeze conditions may kill crops and damage outdoor vegetation. Homeowners are advised to cover plants, bring in sensitive items, and insulate exposed pipes before midnight.

The warning remains in place through Tuesday morning (Oct. 7), when temperatures are expected to slowly climb back above freezing after sunrise.

While the chill will be brief, forecasters note it could signal the start of a colder weather pattern later in the week.
