Grand Junction, CO – A major winter storm is expected to impact northwest Colorado starting Friday evening, bringing heavy snow and dangerously low temperatures. Residents in mountain and upper valley regions should prepare for up to a foot of snow through Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 4 p.m. Friday until 5 p.m. Saturday. Flurries will begin Friday evening, increasing to steady snowfall overnight. By Saturday, snow is expected to linger in the region, accompanied by subzero wind chills. High-elevation areas could experience temperatures as low as -30°F.
Travelers along I-70 and mountain passes, such as Vail and Glenwood Canyon, should anticipate hazardous road conditions, including potential whiteouts. Officials urge motorists to carry emergency supplies and avoid unnecessary travel until roads are cleared.
By Sunday, flurries may persist in the northern mountains, but snow will taper off in lower valleys. Highs in Grand Junction are forecasted to reach 32°F on Sunday, with overnight lows plummeting to 14°F. The arctic front is expected to maintain below-average temperatures into early next week.
Looking ahead, the extended forecast shows partly sunny skies Monday, with highs near 30°F. By midweek, conditions will gradually warm, with highs in the upper 30s by Wednesday.
Residents should secure outdoor items, prepare for possible power outages, and check on vulnerable neighbors. For updates, visit the National Weather Service or local authorities.
