Eureka, CA – Northern California residents should prepare for a soggy start to the week as two storm systems bring widespread rainfall late Sunday night through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service Eureka office, the first round of rain is expected to arrive late Sunday, September 28, and continue into Monday, September 29. A second wave is forecast to move in on Tuesday, September 30, lasting through Wednesday, October 1.
Forecasters say northwest portions of California could see over an inch of rain from the first system, while drier southern areas may only receive about a quarter inch. Mountainous terrain is likely to experience the heaviest totals, with additional rainfall from the second storm potentially pushing totals even higher by Wednesday.
The NWS cautioned that the heavier rainfall amounts could lead to increased runoff and localized hazards. Confidence in totals varies by location, with forecasters noting that higher elevations may face more intense rainfall.
Residents across Humboldt County, Del Norte County, and other parts of northwest California should plan for wet roads and possible travel delays early this week.
