Eureka, Calif. – Dangerously hot weather will grip Northwest California this weekend, with interior valleys soaring to 105°F by Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a warming trend will peak Sunday, bringing widespread highs between 95 and 105 degrees to areas including Ukiah, Willow Creek, Hayfork, and Covelo. Moderate heat risk is expected across the interior, posing threats to anyone without reliable cooling or hydration—especially the elderly, young children, and outdoor workers.
Daytime temperatures will remain more moderate along the coast, with highs near 70°F in Crescent City and Fort Bragg, but areas like Weaverville, Hoopa, and Lakeport will see sustained triple-digit heat. Residents are urged to check on vulnerable neighbors, avoid strenuous activity during peak hours, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
NWS officials stress hydration, sun protection, and access to air-conditioned spaces as essential precautions. Inside parked cars, interior temperatures can climb past 120°F within minutes—even when outside temps are in the 80s.
Excessive heat advisories may be issued if conditions worsen. Stay tuned for updates as temperatures climb across inland Humboldt, Trinity, Mendocino, and Lake counties.
