Fairbanks, AK – The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a High Wind Warning for parts of northwest Alaska, including St. Lawrence Island, the Western Arctic Coast, and the Bering Strait region, effective from 1 PM Friday to 1 PM AKDT Saturday, November 1.

Forecasters expect sustained north to northeast winds of 35 to 45 mph, with gusts reaching 60 to 65 mph across exposed coastal areas such as Point Hope, Cape Lisburne, Savoonga, Gambell, Wales, and Diomede.

The strong winds will combine with scattered snow showers, producing blowing snow and visibility at or below one-half mile at times, creating hazardous travel conditions. The NWS warns that loose debris may be blown around, property could be damaged, and isolated power outages are possible.

Residents and travelers are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary trips, and prepare for difficult travel conditions through Saturday morning. The strongest winds are expected along coastal headlands and open water exposures before easing late Saturday afternoon.
