Florence, Alabama – Temperatures in northwest Alabama are expected to feel like 105° through Sunday evening, triggering a heat advisory that remains in effect until 7 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the advisory includes Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin counties, covering cities like Florence, Muscle Shoals, Tuscumbia, Sheffield, Red Bay, and Russellville. The combination of high temperatures and humidity could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Residents are urged to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day, especially between noon and 6 p.m. Those who must be outside should drink plenty of fluids, wear light clothing, and take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning. Emergency officials also recommend checking on elderly neighbors and limiting outdoor work.

This marks the first widespread heat advisory of the summer for the region. Local cooling centers in Florence and Muscle Shoals are expected to remain open through Sunday evening.

Temperatures will remain elevated into early next week. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions persist.
