Huntsville, Alabama – Strong storms could sweep through northwest Alabama and southern middle Tennessee late Friday into Saturday morning, bringing gusty winds, hail, and even a low tornado risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, there’s a chance of strong to severe storms developing in Mississippi and Tennessee and tracking east into the region overnight Friday. The main threat window stretches from late evening Friday into early Saturday morning, with northwest Alabama and counties in southern middle Tennessee under the highest risk.

Cities like Huntsville, Florence, and Athens in Alabama, along with Pulaski and Fayetteville in Tennessee, could see damaging wind gusts and isolated hail. While confidence remains low for widespread severe activity, forecasters urge residents to stay alert, especially overnight when storms may strike while many are sleeping.

The NWS advises staying indoors if thunder is heard and using multiple ways to receive alerts, such as weather radios and phone apps. This system marks one of the first significant storm threats of the season for the Tennessee Valley region.

Further updates are expected as confidence grows. Warnings may be issued Friday afternoon or evening as the threat becomes clearer. Stay weather-aware through the weekend.
