Green Bay, Wis. – Gardeners in northern Wisconsin should take swift action tonight, as a late-spring frost threatens plants across six counties. Temperatures are expected to dip into the low 30s between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday, creating a risk of damage to sensitive vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Frost Advisory is now in effect for Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida, Vilas, Florence, and Forest counties. Residents in communities such as Rhinelander, Antigo, Crandon, and Merrill are urged to cover plants or bring them indoors before nightfall.
The advisory comes during the holiday weekend, when many households are tending gardens or camping outdoors. Cold air settling overnight could damage unprotected flowers, herbs, and vegetables, particularly in low-lying or rural areas.
Drivers may also notice frost on windshields early Sunday, though major travel disruptions are not expected. Still, outdoor plans—especially those involving plants or agriculture—should adjust accordingly.
The advisory ends at 8 a.m. Sunday, but cooler-than-average temperatures could persist into early next week. Additional advisories may be issued if the chill lingers.
