Green Bay, Wis. – Record-setting cold could grip Wisconsin this weekend as unusually low daytime highs combine with blustery winds. Friday’s temperatures will struggle to reach the upper 40s in northern parts of the state, while much of central and eastern Wisconsin stays in the low to mid-50s, making it feel more like late October than early September.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, gusty west winds of 20 to 35 mph will make conditions feel even colder on Friday, with scattered light showers possible across north-central counties. Saturday will bring lighter winds, though skies will remain mostly cloudy, keeping highs capped between 55 and 61 degrees in cities like Oshkosh, Stevens Point, and Marshfield.

The cold pattern could break several long-standing records. Antigo is forecast to reach only 52 degrees, below its record-low max of 56 set in 2017. Green Bay could hit 57 degrees, challenging records last seen in 1981 and 2010. Wisconsin Rapids, meanwhile, may fall short of 59 degrees, the mark set back in 1956.

Travelers should plan for brisk conditions, particularly in exposed areas along highways and rural routes. Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure during windy periods, and prepare for unseasonably cool evenings.

Some sunshine returns Sunday with highs rebounding into the 60s, but chilly nights and fall-like air will remain in place into early next week.
