Ashland, Wisconsin – Drivers across northern Wisconsin are dealing with slippery travel Saturday as lake-effect snow continues to impact Ashland County through the evening hours, especially in higher terrain near Lake Superior.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Ashland County until 6 p.m. Saturday. Additional snowfall of up to 3 inches is expected, with the heaviest accumulations focused over the Penokee Range in eastern Ashland County. Snowfall rates may fluctuate through the day as lake-effect bands shift inland.

Road conditions are expected to deteriorate at times in Ashland, on Madeline Island, and across the Bad River Reservation. Elevated roadways, untreated secondary roads, and hills are most likely to become slick as snow continues to fall. Visibility may briefly drop during heavier bursts of snow, creating hazardous driving conditions.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials urge motorists to slow down, leave extra stopping distance, and allow additional time for travel. Drivers are encouraged to check updated road conditions by calling 511 or visiting 511wi.gov before heading out.

Snow intensity is expected to gradually ease later Saturday, but slick roads may linger into the evening. Additional advisories remain possible if lake-effect bands persist longer than expected.
