Green Bay, Wis. – Elevated fire weather conditions are expected across northern Wisconsin on Sunday and Monday as dry air and gusty winds combine to increase wildfire risk.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, relative humidity will drop sharply Sunday afternoon, with southwest winds gusting to 30 mph. Temperatures will climb into the mid-80s across Vilas, Florence, Oneida, and Marinette counties, creating ideal conditions for fire spread.
The fire danger extends through Monday, particularly in northern counties including Forest, Lincoln, and Shawano. Though humidity may slightly improve, strong southwest winds and continued warmth will maintain the elevated risk. Residents are urged to avoid open burning and use caution with grills, fire pits, and machinery that may spark.
Along the Lake Michigan shoreline, building waves and gusty winds may create dangerous swimming conditions Monday afternoon through the evening. Swimmers in Manitowoc and Kewaunee counties should be especially cautious of strong currents.
By Tuesday, a more humid air mass will return, bringing a 70–90% chance of thunderstorms across the region. The heaviest rainfall is likely Tuesday night, with a risk of localized flooding in urban and low-lying areas.
Warnings remain in effect through Monday evening. More alerts may follow as storms approach midweek.
