Rhinelander, WI – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Vilas, Oneida, Florence, and Forest counties, warning of heavy snow, strong winds, and dangerous travel across northern Wisconsin from late Tuesday night through Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service in Green Bay.

Forecasters say Vilas County could see 12 to 18 inches of snow in the northwest corner, while surrounding counties including Oneida, Florence, and Forest may see 4 to 8 inches. Winds gusting up to 35 mph are expected to create blowing and drifting snow, leading to whiteout conditions at times.

The heaviest snow is expected from early Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening, impacting both commutes and holiday travel. Visibility could drop sharply, and roads are likely to become snow-covered and impassable in some areas.

The NWS urges travelers and hunters in the Northwoods to plan ahead, monitor forecast updates, and carry winter survival kits in vehicles. Conditions are expected to improve slowly late Wednesday night into Thanksgiving Day.
