Ashland, Wis. – Torrential rainfall has triggered a flash flood warning for northern Bayfield and Ashland counties, with dangerous conditions expected to continue through 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service in Duluth reported that 1 to 3 inches of rain fell in just three hours, most of it before sunrise, overwhelming streams and low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service, the hardest-hit areas include Ashland, Odanah, Iron River, and Moquah, with flooding risks extending along highways US-2, US-63, and WI-13. Creeks and ditches are rising rapidly, and some roads may already be impassable. Emergency officials urge residents to avoid driving through standing water and to move to higher ground if flooding begins nearby.

Travel could be especially dangerous along US-2 between Iron River and Ashland, where rainfall totals were highest. Local schools and businesses may face delays, and power outages are possible if flooding worsens. Authorities warn that even a few inches of fast-moving water can sweep away vehicles.

The flash flood warning remains in effect until midmorning, with additional alerts possible if heavy rain persists. Residents are urged to monitor local updates and stay weather-aware.
