Ashland, Wis. – Thick fog is blanketing parts of northern Wisconsin early Saturday, creating dangerous driving conditions with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. for Ashland, Iron, Burnett, Washburn, Sawyer, and Price counties. The advisory includes Madeline Island and several tribal lands, including the Bad River Reservation, the St. Croix Band in Burnett County, the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation, and the northwestern portion of the Lac du Flambeau Band.

Drivers along Highway 2 near Ashland, U.S. 63 through Hayward, and backroads in Sawyer and Price counties should use caution. Reduced visibility is expected to make morning travel hazardous, particularly in low-lying areas and near lakes and rivers.

The NWS advises motorists to slow down, switch on low-beam headlights or fog lights, and allow extra space between vehicles. Commuters heading toward Hurley, Spooner, and Phillips should expect delays until the fog lifts mid-morning.

The advisory will expire by 9 a.m., but patchy fog could linger near rivers and valleys before clearing. More updates may be issued if conditions persist.
