Hurley, WI – The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Iron County, Wisconsin, warning of lake effect snow from 6 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Monday.
According to the NWS, snow totals between 4 and 8 inches are expected, impacting travel across Iron County and nearby areas, including the tribal lands of the northwestern Lac du Flambeau Band.
Forecasters caution that slippery and snow-covered roads will make travel difficult, especially late Saturday night and through Sunday into early Monday morning. Drivers are advised to slow down, leave extra distance, and check 511wi.gov for the latest road conditions.
This advisory coincides with a broader lake effect snow event across northern Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where several inches of snow and gusty winds could create rapidly changing visibility.
Residents should prepare for shifting snow bands that may bring heavy bursts of snow one moment and clear skies the next, a hallmark of lake effect conditions.
