Duluth, MN – A Blizzard Warning remains in effect for northern Wisconsin through Thursday morning, as powerful winds and heavy snow create dangerous, near-whiteout travel conditions across several counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, Ashland and Iron Counties could see between 3 and 17 inches of snow, with northern Iron County potentially receiving up to 19 inches before the storm ends early Thursday, November 27. Wind gusts may reach 45 mph, causing blowing and drifting snow and downed tree branches.
The warning also includes Douglas and Bayfield Counties, where snow accumulations of up to 6 inches and winds near 40 mph are expected through midnight Wednesday night. Areas near Lake Superior, including Superior and Bayfield, may see slightly lower totals but still face hazardous travel.
Forecasters caution that travel could be “very difficult to impossible”, with significant reductions in visibility and slippery roads. Residents are urged to avoid travel except for emergencies, keep a winter survival kit in vehicles, and monitor Wisconsin 511 for updated road conditions.
