Spokane, WA – The National Weather Service has extended an air stagnation advisory across eastern Washington, warning of potential health risks through Monday afternoon. Calm winds and trapped pollutants could significantly impact sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory covers the Spokane area, along with portions of central and northern Washington. Air quality could decline further due to fine particulate pollution near the ground. Residents are urged to minimize outdoor burning and reduce vehicle idling. People with pre-existing health conditions should limit outdoor activities and monitor air quality levels closely.

Weekend temperatures remain cold, with overnight lows dropping to the mid-teens. Daytime highs will climb to the low-to-mid 30s under mostly sunny skies. By Monday, temperatures will begin to moderate, with highs reaching the mid-30s and lows remaining steady in the upper teens.

Looking ahead, forecasters predict a slight warming trend by midweek, with highs nearing 40 degrees by Wednesday. However, air quality concerns may linger without a change in weather patterns.

Residents should stay updated on conditions and consider wearing masks outdoors if pollution levels rise. For air quality updates, visit the Environmental Protection Agency’s website or the Spokane Clean Air Agency.
