Richmond, VA – Freezing rain and sleet will create hazardous travel conditions across northern Virginia tonight, with ice accumulations expected on roads, especially along I-64 and I-95. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 9 p.m. Wednesday until 10 a.m. Thursday.
According to the NWS Baltimore/Washington office, mixed precipitation will start as sleet and freezing rain overnight before transitioning to plain rain Thursday morning. Ice accumulation could reach 0.10 inches, making untreated roads and bridges slick, especially in Richmond, D.C., and northern Virginia.
Thursday will bring steady rain with highs near 49°F, helping to melt accumulated ice. However, refreezing is possible Thursday night as temperatures drop to around 30°F.
Looking ahead, Friday will be dry and partly sunny before another winter storm brings snow and sleet on Saturday. Travelers should monitor road conditions via 511and use caution during commutes.
Stay updated with local forecasts and prepare for icy conditions tonight into early Thursday.
