Washington, DC – The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington has issued a Frost Advisory for much of northern Virginia, western Maryland, and the eastern panhandle of West Virginia from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday.

The advisory includes Culpeper, Madison, Rappahannock, Loudoun, Fauquier, Frederick (MD and VA), Carroll, and Page Counties, as well as Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan Counties in West Virginia. Forecasters warn that temperatures in the mid-30s will lead to widespread frost formation under clear skies and calm winds.

According to the weather service, sensitive outdoor vegetation could be damaged or killed if not protected. Residents are urged to cover gardens and flowers or bring potted plants indoors before temperatures drop overnight.

Frost is most likely in low-lying and rural areas west of the I-95 corridor, including the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge foothills. Urban centers such as Washington and Baltimore may remain a few degrees warmer, reducing frost risk inside city limits.

Temperatures are expected to rebound into the upper 50s Friday afternoon, followed by another cool but dry night Friday into Saturday.
