Culpeper, VA – A Freeze Warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. Friday across portions of northern and central Virginia, where overnight lows have fallen into the upper 20s to low 30s.
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, the warning covers Frederick, Page, Warren, Clarke, Madison, Rappahannock, Orange, and both Fauquier counties. The chill marks one of the first hard freezes of the season for the Virginia Piedmont and northern Shenandoah Valley.
Meteorologists warn that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, flowers, and other sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing could also be damaged. Residents are advised to cover plants, drain hoses, and protect pipes before the sun rises.
Calm winds and clear skies overnight created ideal conditions for rapid cooling. Temperatures are expected to rebound later this morning, with afternoon highs reaching the upper 50s to near 60 degrees under sunny skies.
This morning’s freeze is another sign that fall’s warm spell has ended, and colder mornings will become more common across the Mid-Atlantic through the end of October.
