SOUTH HERO, Vt. – A crisp fall night will bring patchy frost to the Champlain Islands as temperatures dip into the lower 30s overnight tonight, from midnight until 8AM Friday, marking one of the coldest nights of the season so far.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Frost Advisory is in effect for Grand Isle County, including Alburgh and South Hero. Overnight lows near 33 degrees under clear skies and light winds will allow frost to form on exposed surfaces, particularly in sheltered inland areas.

Forecasters warn that frost could damage sensitive outdoor plants, and residents are encouraged to bring in or cover flowers and garden vegetation before midnight. Pets should also be sheltered, and gardeners across the Champlain Islands should consider this the end of the growing season for unprotected crops.

Calm winds and clear skies will promote radiational cooling, with frost likely forming after midnight. Early morning drivers should prepare for frosted windshields and limited visibility in low-lying spots.

According to meteorologists, temperatures will rebound quickly Friday with bright sunshine and light winds. A warmer weekend follows, though cooler air may return early next week with another frost risk inland.
