Burlington, Vermont – A blast of cold Canadian air is pushing into Vermont right now, holding temperatures below freezing and creating wind chills that feel like the single digits through tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, highs Friday and Saturday will struggle to reach the freezing mark across much of the state. Cities including Burlington, Montpelier, and St. Albans are expected to remain in the 20s during the day, with brisk northwest winds adding an extra bite to the air.
The cold intensifies overnight. Lows will fall into the single digits and teens by early Saturday morning, with wind chills dropping even lower, especially in northern and higher elevation areas. Roads may remain dry, but the risk comes from prolonged exposure and the risk of frostbite in these conditions.
Communities along I-89 and Route 7 should prepare for sharply colder air, especially during early morning travel hours.
Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and ensure heating systems are working properly.
The cold pattern holds through Saturday before temperatures begin to rebound Sunday, with milder air gradually returning into early next week.
