Burlington, VT – A mix of rain and snow is expected to overspread northern Vermont beginning Thursday evening, bringing light accumulations primarily to elevated areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, precipitation will begin between 6 and 8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, with snow likely in higher elevations above 1,000 feet, including parts of the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks. While snow totals of one inch or more have a 25 percent or greater probability in these areas, forecasters say most regions will remain above freezing overnight.

This warmer air will contribute to rapid snowmelt, especially after sunrise on Friday. Cities such as Burlington, Montpelier, and St. Johnsbury are forecast to stay mostly wet, while snowfall will be more common in rural and mountainous zones like Jay Peak, Killington, and parts of the Northeast Kingdom.

Drivers in affected regions should remain cautious on untreated secondary roads during the overnight hours. Travel impacts are expected to be minimal due to melting snow, but slick spots may develop where heavier snow falls.

Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and dress in layers for chilly morning temperatures, which are expected to hover in the low to mid-30s across much of Vermont by Friday morning.
