Burlington, VT – Residents across northern New York and Vermont can expect a wet Tuesday as widespread rain showers track northeastward through the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Burlington reports that showers will be on and off throughout the day, but no severe weather is anticipated.
According to the NWS, rain chances will peak this morning into early afternoon, with some areas such as Gouverneur, Tupper Lake, and Lake Placid seeing probabilities of 85% to 90%. Showers are expected to taper off gradually into the evening, though isolated pockets of rain may linger after sunset.
Radar imagery early Tuesday showed heavier rain bands lifting northeastward from Watertown and Ogdensburg toward the Adirondacks and into northern Vermont. The system is expected to spread scattered rainfall across communities including Plattsburgh, Middlebury, Montpelier, and Springfield.
Despite the soggy conditions, temperatures will climb into the lower to mid-70s this afternoon, making for mild but damp weather. Roads may become slick during heavier bursts of rain, so drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and watch for reduced visibility during the morning commute.
While no flooding or severe thunderstorms are forecast, the NWS reminds residents to monitor local updates for any changes in rainfall timing or intensity.
