BURLINGTON, Vt. – Northern Vermont will see a brief chance of showers tonight before a cool, fall-like air mass settles in by Friday morning. Daytime highs today will reach into the low 80s before dropping sharply overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a 20 percent chance of showers will linger before 2 a.m., followed by clearing skies. Temperatures are expected to dip to the mid-50s overnight with northwesterly winds gusting up to 13 mph. Friday will bring a noticeably cooler day with highs in the upper 60s before nighttime lows fall into the low 40s.

Drivers in Chittenden and Franklin counties may notice patchy fog Friday morning as cooler air meets lingering ground moisture. By Saturday, skies will turn bright and sunny across Vermont, with highs near 64 degrees and calm winds — ideal conditions for outdoor plans and fall foliage viewing.

The warmup returns Sunday, when highs climb into the mid-70s. However, rain chances increase again early next week, with scattered showers expected Monday through Wednesday. Residents planning outdoor activities should keep an eye on the sky as wet weather could briefly disrupt commutes and school schedules.

Clear skies and cooler nights will dominate through the weekend before unsettled conditions return.
