Salt Lake City, UT – A multi-impact weather system is sweeping across Utah and southwest Wyoming this Saturday, bringing threats of severe thunderstorms, flash flooding, and high-elevation snow, according to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City.

The NWS reports a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms capable of producing wind gusts over 58 mph and hail larger than one inch for most of Utah and southwest Wyoming. A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) for flash flooding is in effect for southern Utah, particularly around slot canyons, dry washes, and recent burn scar areas.

Forecasters say a strong cold front will move through the region this afternoon and evening, bringing a band of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty northwest winds. Behind the front, cooler air will settle in, with snow expected at elevations above 7,500 to 8,000 feet, including portions of the Wasatch and Uinta Mountains.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, avoid flooded roads, and move indoors when lightning approaches. Outdoor recreation in canyons and washes is strongly discouraged through tonight due to flash flood potential.
