Salt Lake City, UT – A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for northern Utah’s Wasatch Mountains beginning noon Sunday through noon Monday, with forecasters warning of heavy snow and winter driving conditions across high-elevation routes.
According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, snow totals are expected to reach 4 to 8 inches along the U.S.-89 summit through Logan Canyon and the Monte Cristo summit, with 8 to 12 inches possible over the high terrain of the Bear River Mountains.
The advisory includes the Wasatch Mountains north of I-80, impacting mountain passes and seasonal roads that remain open. Motorists traveling through Logan Canyon, SR-39, or nearby recreation areas should prepare for slick, snow-covered roads and reduced visibility, especially overnight.
Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution when traveling through higher elevations and to check the latest road conditions from the Utah Department of Transportation at udottraffic.utah.gov.
The storm is expected to ease by midday Monday, though lingering snow showers could continue across the northern peaks into the afternoon.
