State College, Pennsylvania – Lake-effect snow and gusty winds may bring hazardous travel conditions to northern Pennsylvania beginning Monday morning, as a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for McKean and Warren counties.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, 3 to 6 inches of snow are possible across much of the area, with 7 to 9 inches possible in the northern portions of McKean and Warren counties. Wind gusts could reach 50 mph, increasing the risk of blowing snow and reduced visibility.

The Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Monday morning through Tuesday evening and includes the cities of Warren and Bradford. Forecasters note that lake-effect snow can be highly variable, with heavy snow bands producing rapid changes in visibility and road conditions over short distances.

Roads, particularly bridges and overpasses, are expected to become slick and hazardous during periods of snowfall. Travel could become very difficult, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds may also bring down tree branches, creating additional safety concerns.

The National Weather Service urges residents to prepare for rapidly changing conditions and to use caution when traveling. Drivers are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and be alert for sudden reductions in visibility. Pedestrians are encouraged to watch for icy sidewalks, stairs, and driveways.

Officials recommend monitoring forecast updates, as snowfall amounts and impacts may change as the lake-effect bands evolve.

For commuters, students, and workers in northern Pennsylvania, the developing winter weather could significantly disrupt travel through Tuesday evening.
