BRADFORD, Pa. – Lake-effect snow will spread across far northern Pennsylvania today, leading to slick roads and reduced visibility through Tuesday afternoon. The heaviest snowfall is expected late Monday night into early Tuesday, with totals between 2 and 5 inches across Elk and McKean Counties.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. Monday through 1 p.m. Tuesday. Light snow and flurries will begin through the morning, producing up to an inch by sunset, followed by heavier, more persistent bands overnight.
Forecasters warn that travel could become hazardous on area highways, including U.S. 219, Route 120, and Route 6, particularly during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Snow bands will be locally intense and may cause visibility to drop quickly within short distances.
Drivers are advised to slow down and plan extra travel time, as untreated roads and bridges will turn slick. Conditions will vary widely depending on the placement of the lake-effect bands, with some valleys seeing light snow while higher elevations receive several inches.
Snowfall will taper gradually Tuesday afternoon as winds weaken and drier air moves in from the west.
