Coudersport, Pa. – Residents across McKean and Potter counties should prepare for a cold snap early Saturday as a Frost Advisory takes effect from 4 to 9 a.m., with valley temperatures potentially dropping to freezing. Sensitive outdoor plants may be at risk.
According to the National Weather Service in State College, early morning lows could dip to 36°F, with some sheltered valley areas briefly reaching 32°F. The advisory affects locations including Bradford, Coudersport, and surrounding rural communities.
Residents are urged to cover or bring indoors any unprotected plants overnight, especially in low-lying and shaded areas where frost formation is most likely. While not a widespread freeze, the isolated cold pockets could cause localized damage to gardens and late-season crops.
Saturday’s chill is expected to be brief, with temperatures rising quickly after sunrise. However, this early-season frost could be a sign of more frequent overnight dips as the region transitions toward fall.
Additional advisories could be issued next week if similar conditions return.
