Boonville, NY – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Monday for northern Oneida County, where snow and gusty winds are making for difficult travel conditions across central New York.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, total snow accumulations between 3 and 7 inches are expected, with the heaviest snow falling across northern and northeastern parts of the county. Wind gusts up to 30 mph will contribute to blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility on open roads and rural routes.
Forecasters note that some rain may mix in during the afternoon in lower elevations, but snow will dominate through the evening hours as temperatures fall. Roads are expected to remain slick and snow-covered, especially on Route 12 and along the Tug Hill Plateau, where heavier bands could set up.
Motorists are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and use caution during periods of reduced visibility. Travel tonight may become hazardous, especially for those in higher terrain and less-traveled areas.
Snow is expected to taper off after midnight, but icy conditions may persist into the early hours of Monday.
