Alva, OK – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for parts of northern Oklahoma, including Alva, in effect until 11 PM tonight. This alert follows the possibility of scattered severe storms capable of producing damaging winds up to 75 mph and large hail, with some hailstones as large as 2.5 inches in diameter.
According to the NWS, multiple thunderstorms are expected to develop near the Kansas/Oklahoma border through the late evening, with conditions favorable for the formation of supercells and organized storm clusters. These storms could lead to significant property damage and power outages in the affected areas.
Residents in the watch area are advised to stay informed of weather conditions and prepare to take cover if necessary. The watch zone includes areas approximately 35 miles north and south of a line from 40 miles west-southwest of Alva, OK, to 30 miles south-southeast of Monett, MO. It’s recommended to secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during the watch period.
