Norman, OK – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Norman has extended Severe Thunderstorm Watch 617 until 5 a.m. Tuesday, keeping parts of northern Oklahoma under the risk of damaging storms early this morning.
According to the NWS, the watch now includes Garfield, Grant, Kay, and Noble counties, with impacts possible in cities such as Enid, Ponca City, Perry, Blackwell, Medford, Pond Creek, Lamont, and Wakita.
Forecasters say the storms could bring strong winds, hail, and heavy rainfall as they continue to move across the region overnight. Residents are urged to remain alert, monitor weather updates, and be prepared to seek shelter if warnings are issued.
This extension comes as storm activity lingers beyond the initial watch window, which had been set to expire at 3 a.m. Tuesday. The updated timing reflects continued instability and storm potential into the early morning hours.
The NWS advises residents to keep weather radios and phones on for emergency alerts and to avoid unnecessary travel until the threat passes.
