Cleveland, OH – A winter storm is set to impact northeast Ohio starting Wednesday evening, bringing a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain that could make travel dangerous overnight into Thursday morning. The National Weather Service warns that ice accumulation and slick roads may create hazardous conditions for drivers, particularly on highways like I-90 and I-71.
According to the National Weather Service, light snow will begin Wednesday afternoon, with heavier snowfall possible in some areas before transitioning into a wintry mix by evening. Freezing rain is likely overnight, increasing the potential for ice buildup on roads, sidewalks, and power lines. Temperatures will hover around 29°F overnight, keeping conditions icy until a warm-up Thursday.
Thursday will bring a shift in weather patterns, with temperatures climbing to a high of 45°F. Rain is expected throughout the day, helping to melt accumulated ice but leaving wet and slushy roads. Travelers should remain cautious during the morning commute as untreated surfaces may stay slick.
Looking ahead, Friday will be mostly sunny with a high near 31°F, offering a brief break from precipitation. However, another system could bring light snow showers overnight into Saturday, with temperatures reaching 43°F before dropping back into the 20s by Sunday.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook, advising residents to prepare for difficult driving conditions, especially on untreated roads and bridges. Motorists should allow extra travel time, reduce speeds, and be prepared for possible delays.
Power outages are also a concern as ice accumulation could weigh down trees and power lines. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and have emergency supplies on hand.
