CLEVELAND, Ohio – Strong storms could sweep across northern Ohio Tuesday evening with damaging winds topping the list of concerns. The National Weather Service warns that conditions may turn severe into the night, leaving parts of Cleveland, Toledo, and Akron at risk for power outages and hazardous travel.

According to the National Weather Service Cleveland office, there is a marginal risk for severe storms through tonight, with strong to severe wind gusts the primary hazard. Heavy rainfall may also accompany the strongest storms, reducing visibility and creating ponding on major roads including Interstates 71 and 90.

The bigger danger comes midweek on Lake Erie. Forecasters say a high risk of rip currents is expected Wednesday evening through Thursday night. Swimmers and boaters are urged to avoid the water during this period, as conditions may turn life-threatening.

Residents should secure outdoor items ahead of storms and prepare for possible brief power disruptions. Those near Lake Erie should stay onshore until advisories are lifted.

Storm threats ease by midweek, but warnings remain in effect through Thursday night. More advisories could be issued if conditions worsen.
