Cleveland, Ohio – Northeast Ohio is bracing for a chilly night as temperatures fall into the lower and mid-40s by early Tuesday, with some inland areas approaching record lows. Along the Lake Erie shoreline, readings will hold slightly warmer, closer to 50 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, most inland counties could see lows between 41 and 45 degrees, while Ashtabula, Mansfield, and Youngstown may flirt with record levels in the upper 30s to low 40s. Clear skies and nearly full moonlight will accompany the cooldown, adding to the fall-like feel.

Motorists should prepare for cooler morning commutes, with potential for patchy fog in rural valleys. Residents are advised to bring sensitive plants indoors and protect outdoor pets from the chill.

Cities like Sandusky, Toledo, and Cleveland will stay a few degrees milder, generally holding between 47 and 51 degrees thanks to the moderating lake effect. Still, the cool snap is expected to be one of the coldest nights since spring.

Temperatures will rebound slightly midweek, but cool mornings remain in the forecast. The Weather Service notes that overnight lows could again approach the 40s through the weekend.
